Gulf fashion press spent 2026 writing about velvet, soft structure, blazer collars and black and white. We read the coverage and matched each trend to cuts and details in the Novella collection.

Most 2026 trend reporting came from the UAE and Saudi press: Khaleej Times and Gulf News on Ramadan and Eid collections, The National on luxury Ramadan capsules, and Sayidaty on how modest fashion writers wore their abayas through the winter. Doha shares much of that wardrobe. One difference holds: black remains the everyday norm in Qatar, and colour appears more at events.
Designers interviewed by Gulf News in May described the leading Eid silhouettes as fluid, elongated and softly structured, and UAE designers told Khaleej Times in March that their focus was soft structure and fluidity. On an abaya, that means a shoulder and collar that hold their shape over a body that falls long and clean.
In the Novella collection, 022 follows the body before flowing into its full length, and 013 pairs a straight cut with light shaping at the waist.
A designer quoted by Khaleej Times reported steady demand for flowing dresses that define the waist and then flare. On an abaya, the Gulf term for that line is mukhassar, the waisted abaya. Novella 017 shapes the waist with an adjustable belt, and 013 does it through the cut, with no belt at all.
Sayidaty's January round-up singled out blazer-style abayas for polished, formal looks. The cut borrows lapels, a sharper collar and buttons from tailoring. Novella 007 adds gold-toned buttons down the front and at the cuffs, 014 uses contrasting lapels and side panels with a single button, and 006 softens the blazer collar with lace at the waist and cuffs.
The same Sayidaty piece featured two-tone black and white designs, polka dots and animal prints, and The National's Ramadan coverage showed crisp stripes. Novella 019 sets a white front panel and white cuffs against black, and 020 runs black and white lines with slim piping. For stripes, 002 pairs vertical lines with a floral pattern, and 022 uses warm taupe and deep charcoal.
Novella 005 keeps its blazer plain black and lets a leopard-print panel show only at the neckline, the way a lining shows at the opening of an abaya.
Sayidaty reported velvet in nearly every 2026 abaya collection, often embroidered with flowers, and designers told Khaleej Times that velvet stood out in the Ramadan season, mixed with satin, sequins or foil. For the floral side of the trend without embroidery, Novella 004 carries metallic floral patterns across a textured fabric, and 021 places a single black flower at the waist of an ivory abaya.
Designers in the Gulf News Eid report favoured restraint: lighter embroidery and small, deliberate decoration. On Novella 010 and 011, fabric-covered buttons and a careful closure do that work, and 016 relies on one small metallic clasp.
For daytime, the Gulf News report listed soft neutrals such as sand, sage, ivory, dusty pink and powder blue, with emerald, burgundy and royal blue for evenings. In Doha those shades suit Eid mornings and events more than a working week. Within the Novella collection, 021 offers ivory, 001 pairs deep brown with a beige front panel, and 012 comes in deep navy.
Gulf press in 2026 pointed to fluid, softly structured abayas with a defined waist, blazer-style collars, two-tone black and white, stripes, velvet with floral embroidery in the cooler months, and lighter embellishment overall. Most coverage came from the UAE and Saudi Arabia, and women in Doha wear the same cuts.
Yes. Black remains the everyday norm in Qatar, while white and coloured abayas appear more at events and among younger women, a shift analysts have tracked for years. 2026 collections added soft neutrals for daytime and deeper shades for evenings around that black base.
In Qatar, in practice, yes. Velvet is warm and heavy, so it suits evenings from December to February. In summer, you get a similar depth of colour after dark from satin or a heavier crepe, which carry less weight in the heat.
Change one element a season. Add a belt to define the waist, choose one abaya with a blazer collar or a black and white detail, or bring in velvet for winter evenings. Keep your plain black abayas as the base, since they carry every trend you add on top.
